When does a 500 or 1,000 pack of Dubia roaches make sense?
How to find your weekly Dubia roach count, pick the right bulk pack for your setup, and what to know before you order 500 or 1,000 roaches.

Quick answer. A 500-pack makes sense when two or more reptiles eat through a 100-pack in under two weeks. A 1,000-pack fits a rescue, a breeder running several animals, or a home with a large reptile that eats daily. Multiply what each animal eats in a week, add the totals, and pick the pack that covers 2 to 4 weeks of that count.
Dubia Growers is a small farm in Amherst, VA. Gary Becker started raising Dubia roaches about 12 years ago and keeps 45 colonies today. The farm sells packs of 25, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, and 10,000. The smallest pack is 25.
How do you find your weekly Dubia roach count?
Multiply what one reptile eats in a week by the number of reptiles you keep.
For a bearded dragon, the Long Island Avian and Exotic Vet Clinic gives babies 2 to 3 insects per meal and 2 to 3 meals a day, which works out to about 4 to 9 a day. ReptiFiles gives a juvenile about 5 to 6 head-sized insects a day. An adult bearded dragon eats far less: ReptiFiles lists 3 to 4 head-sized insects, twice a week, or about 6 to 8 a week. VCA Animal Hospitals notes that adult dragons eat every 24 to 72 hours.
Here is how those weekly totals scale:
| Reptile setup | Roaches a week | Pack of 100 lasts | Pack of 500 lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 adult bearded dragon | 6 to 8 | about 12 to 16 weeks | more than a year |
| 1 juvenile bearded dragon | 35 to 42 | 2 to 3 weeks | 12 to 14 weeks |
| 2 juvenile bearded dragons | 70 to 84 | about 8 to 10 days | 6 to 7 weeks |
| 3 or more reptiles, or 1 large lizard | 100 to 150 | under 1 week | 3 to 5 weeks |
These numbers show how fast each count gets used, not how long the roaches stay in good shape at home. The farm has not published a keeping time. Ask us when you place your order.
For other reptile species, feeding rates vary. Ask your vet or check a care guide for your species. Our feeding guide for bearded dragons covers the full source comparison for dragons.

When does a 500-pack make sense?
A 500-pack makes sense when your weekly count runs above 50 roaches.
Two juvenile bearded dragons eating 35 to 42 each per week go through 70 to 84 a week. A pack of 100 runs out in about 8 to 10 days. A pack of 500 lasts about 6 to 7 weeks. Keepers with two or three growing animals, a rescue, or one large reptile that eats daily often land in this range.
Growing animals add a second consideration. Young reptiles develop fast and move up a size as they grow. A large pack of one size can become the wrong size before the pack is used up. For animals still growing, a smaller first pack lets you change sizes as they develop. For animals at full size eating a steady amount, a larger pack reduces re-orders.
Steps, not to scale
- We start at 25. That is the smallest pack we send.
- Packs of 10,000 come in extra small and small.
The farm sells six sizes: extra small, small, medium, large, extra large, and adult. Packs of 25, 50, 100, 500, and 1,000 are available across all sizes. Packs of 10,000 come in extra small and small only. Adults are sold in small numbers; they are the farm's breeding stock. Extra large is kept in short supply, so the farm sends it alongside other sizes.
When does a 1,000-pack make sense?
A 1,000-pack makes sense when your weekly count runs above 100 roaches.
A rescue running 4 to 6 reptiles, a breeder rearing a clutch of growing animals, or a home with a large monitor or tegu that eats often will reach this range. At 150 roaches a week, a pack of 1,000 lasts about 6 to 7 weeks.
For a large order, name your full animal list, the sizes you want, and how many of each. The farm runs an approval-based order process: Gary checks the colonies before confirming. There is no fixed count the farm can always fill, because what is ready changes with the colonies each week. The farm confirms your order, your ship date, and your price.
Do the sizes matter for a bulk order?
Yes, if your animals are at different life stages.
Pick a feeder no wider than the space between your reptile's eyes. That is the farm's sizing rule, and ReptiFiles gives the same one for bearded dragons. Our size guide gives the check step by step. A juvenile bearded dragon and an adult bearded dragon need different sizes. A clutch of new hatchlings needs extra small or small. A large monitor may need large or extra large. Ordering one size for a multi-animal home often means the wrong size reaches some animals.
When you request a bulk order, name each size you need and how many. One request can cover multiple sizes and pack counts. See why adults and extra large are harder to get if you need large quantities of those sizes.
How do you store a large Dubia roach order?
Keep the tub away from heat, direct sunlight, and heat sources.
The Dubia Growers care guide warns against leaving the tub in a car, in the sun, or next to a heater. The farm holds orders when the temperature hits 85 degrees. The same risk applies to a large tub at home.
The farm has not published a specific storage temperature guideline. Ask us when you order.

Common questions
- What is the smallest Dubia roach pack?
- The smallest pack is 25. Packs go from 25 to 10,000.
- Can I order 10,000 Dubia roaches in large or adult size?
- No. Packs of 10,000 come in extra small and small only. Adults are sold in small numbers and extra large ships alongside other sizes in most orders.
- How do I estimate how many Dubia roaches I need for two bearded dragons?
- Add the weekly count for each dragon. ReptiFiles gives a juvenile about 5 to 6 insects a day, which is 35 to 42 a week. Two juveniles need about 70 to 84 a week. Adult dragons eat far less: ReptiFiles lists about 6 to 8 a week.
- Can I order different sizes in one request?
- Yes. Tell us each size you want and how many of each. One request can cover as many sizes and pack counts as you need.
- Do you list prices for bulk orders?
- Prices are not listed on the site. We confirm your order, your ship date, and your price. Ask about your count when you send the request.
- Why might a smaller pack be better for a growing reptile?
- Young reptiles move up a size as they develop. If you buy a large pack of one size and the animal outgrows it before the pack runs out, some bugs may be too large to feed safely. A smaller pack lets you adjust the size as the reptile grows.
