How we work

We stop shipping at 85 degrees.

Four things we do every week, and why each one matters.

  • We stop when it gets hot

We hold orders when it hits 85 degrees. Heat is the fastest way to lose a box of Dubia roaches, so we wait for a better day.

  • We pack extra when it is warm

On warm days we add extra bugs at no charge, and we tell you before the box goes out.

  • We sort every size by width

Whole totes go through the sorters every 30 to 45 days. A bug drops through the first hole it fits, and that is what puts it in a size.

  • We check your state first

Rules on live insects change from state to state. We check yours before we take your order.

Six sizes, from hatchling to adult.

Most people order medium first. If you are not sure, tell us your reptile and we will pick with you.

  1. Extra small

Hatchlings and tiny geckos, just out of the egg.

  2. Small

Young reptiles that have started growing fast.

  3. Medium

Juveniles. The size most people order first.

  4. Large

Grown bearded dragons and adult geckos.

  5. Extra large

Big adults that need a full meal in one bite.

We keep extra large in short supply, so we send it alongside other sizes.

  6. Adult

Large reptiles, and keepers who breed their own.

Adults are our breeding stock, so we sell them in small numbers only.

  • Three medium dubia roaches beside a US quarter on a white background, each roughly half the width of the coin

These are illustrations, not photographs of our bugs. We are shooting our own dubia at every size next to a real quarter, and these get replaced as they are done.

They eat every week. Your supply should keep up.

Tell us your reptile and your feeding cycle, and we will keep you stocked on that rhythm. Change or pause any time by just telling us.

The grower’s rule

Never feed a bug wider than the space between your reptile's eyes.

Get this wrong and your reptile will not eat what you paid for. It is the first thing we ask on the phone, and it takes about ten seconds to check.

The farm

45 colonies, one grower, 12 years.

Gary has raised dubia in Amherst, VA for 12 years. He came up from Atlanta and has been here 27 years. Every colony on this farm was started and kept by hand.

Bugs are fragile, and keeping 45 colonies healthy comes down to steady heat, fresh food and enough room. It is also why we sort every tote ourselves every 30 to 45 days.
